Poll was very positiv about making a Corel Painter Tutorial. 83% said yes!
I use Corel Painter IX.5 on mac, but this tutorial can be used for IX, X, 11 as well. IMO the tools should be the same ^^

So, I started.. but it just got sooo huge.. I had to split it into parts... which are still huge.. This is Part I
I will give some tips with painter in general and about the tools I use and recommend.. In Part II, which will come too soon, I'll go more into detail about the tools in an actual drawing.
